Okay, I use the automatic update and every time I download and install the
following updates: Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool, Critical Update for Office
XP Service Pack 2 (KB885884), Office XP Service Pack 3; my computer will not
run any programs after it restarts. So, I download the updates (I use the
express download option), they install, Windows prompts me to restart the
computer after installation, which I do. After my computer restarts I can’t
open most of my software. I then have to rollback my computer to the restart
point right before I installed the new updates. In trying to solve this
problem I have restored at least 3 times and have even done a full reformat.
Please help me out here. I want to keep my computer up to date but if I can’t
run my programs what is the point of updating?

So for the time being I have switched from full auto update to letting
windows notify me of updates. I have restored my computer to the point
before the download and installation of the update. This problem happens
every time I install the updates.

Other info you may need: I have no server products, I update and run EZ
Firewall and Virus scan every day, update and run Ad-Aware every day, update
and run Spybot every day. I defrag my computer once a month and run scan
disk periodically. It is not on a network.
