cannot open shtml files

I am trying to open an (offline) shtml file on my disk. The file is
automaticaly opened in internet explorer, but the very moment explorer opens
- it closes. What's wrong?

any help appreciated

Is it a file you save from the internet?
If so, IE can't find the sever certificate for the secure html.
