Cannot Open Word and Excel Files Simultaneously

Is it possible in Vista's Windows Explorer to open multiple files in
different formats simultaneously? In XP I used to be able to select a
Word and an Excel file, right-click, and select Open. When I do this
in Vista, Open is no longer an option. Can this be done?

Do a non adjacent selection of your files and press enter on your keyboard.

I did this, and nothing happens.
