Cannot Paste into IE or Firefox

I bought a new computer in December (a HP desktop) running Windows Vista
Ultimate. I have it loaded with Firefox, Office 2003, Frontpage 2003 and PSP
X2.

Until yesterday I could copy a sentence or a web URL and paste it into the
address bar of Firefox using CTRL + C and CTRL + V but last night the paste
function stopped working and now it won't do it in IE either. However copy
and paste will work if I close Firefox into an Office program.

I have checked for spyware/malware and am running PC-Cillan 2008 and it did
not pick up anything.

I do not recall installing anything last night, not even MS updates. Any
ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

Have you re-booted from a cold start?

Have you tried the Control Panel "Default programs" app?
