Cannot re-create partnership after resetting phone to factory defa

Hello,

I have an MWg Zinc II running Windows Mobile 6.1 that was setup to sync with
Outlook 2003 on a Vista PC. It was working fine until the phone failed to
start one day and I had to reset it to factory defaults.

Of course that broke the sync partnership, so I deleted the old one and
tried to create a new one. I think I deleted the old partnership while the
phone was connected to the PC. Perhaps that was a mistake. What happens now,
is that each time I go to Setup New Sync Partnerships, it shows me two icons,
one called MWg_Zinc_II, which can sync using Media Player and a PDA icon
called Guest. I click on Guest and it open a dialog titled 'Windows Mobile
Device Center'. The dialog has the word 'Error' and an error icon (white x on
a red background), nothing else.

Rebooting the phone and PC does not help.

I have not yet tried reinstalling the Mobile Device Center, my wife's phone
is also synced on this PC, so a reinstall would break that.
