You could try the remedy that worked for the gentleman in this thread:

or it seems that stopping and then starting the Automatic Updates service
(Start>Run and key in net stop wuauserv and then click on OK, when the
service has stopped, Start>Run and key in net start wuauserv and then click
on OK) has worked for a few who were receiving that error message.
