Cannot reinstall updates?

Dear all,

I have a pc with win xp pro.
It was installed with sp 2 and all windows updates.

To try something in xp pro sp1, I removed xp pro sp2 then reinstalled
it.
This reinstalled Internet Explorer 6.

Even after uninstalling IE 7 in control panel, I cannot reinstall.

Windows updates shows me 80 updates (that were installed in the past but
are no more recognized), I can't reinstall any windows update. He says:

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.

Can you help?

if since sp2, you have other updates, removing SP2 and installing SP1
without backup doesn't leave you much choice besides re-install from scratch
or trying the following
reverse you have done from sp1
remove sp1
inserting the cd for sp2 and see if you can get sp2 installed
