Cannot Retrieve Updates to Windows 2000 Pro

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to check for updates. The websites
searches for updates for my computer, then displays the message "The website
has encountered a problem, and cannot display the page you are trying to
view." It then lists three suggestions to do. I've done them all and get the
same results. What's happening here?

I've been having the same problem for the last few days. Also, for the last
couple of weeks I've been having a problem where my computer will freeze up
after awhile and the only thing I can do is manually turn it off and back on
again, the cursor freezes and everything. I really believe it has something
to do with the last updates I installed. Can anyone help me?? I'm not real
computer savvy, so laymen's terms would be appreciated! I have Windows XP -
sp2, and Internet Explorer 6.

For a possible fix to this problem, please do BOTH of the following:

1. (not for Vista) Download and install update KB927891 version 3:
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891>
and then restart Windows.

2. For 32-bit systems, download and save to hard disk, and then install:
<http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe>

If this produces an error message about "Update agent already
installed", then execute the installer again manually, with parameter
/wuforce as in (at a comand prompt window):

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

Then visit Microsoft Update again, and report back whether your problem is
fixed.

Please be patient with me as I explained that I'm not very computer literate,
but is this instruction to fix the problem with my computer freezing or for
the problem I've been having accessing the Windows Updates??

If (as I suspect) they are two manifestations of the same underlying
problem, then the fix will fix both.
