There is a method to posting which should include
all details, such as what exactly produces the error,
and in what context.
It's Vista on the laptop, you fail to detail if the CD drive
can at least play back cd's? Is the cd drive recognised
in explorer?
Were you ever able to rip audio cd's?
Vista can be very fussy about what software is installed,
do you make any correllation with problem occurring and
installing/uninstalling software, service packs etc
Your problem could be the laptops drive is faulty, or loose
connections, it could be a configuration problem, registry
corruption, or software conflicts.
If you do a search on what seems to be your slightly inaccurate
wording of the error(?) you will find the indications are
it is a standard Vista error when it gets upset, and the
solutions are many and varied depending on the cause.
All anyone will discern or at least guess from your post is
that when you open WMP and with a cd loaded, if you
try to rip you get the error?
The first step is discerning if it is a WMP issue, or a Vista
problem, or hardware, or conflicting software.
Can WMP play audio CD's? (A search has found some Vista
users found they first had to at least play a track just once
to be able to rip it, though seems to be a hardware issue?)
It's a Vista laptop, to run Vista it should at least meet a
minimum specification, but is the "cd drive" internal or
external - usb or firewire?
Do you have other music software installed, such as iTunes?
Can that or other software rip from CD, is it just WMP or all
rip capable software?
Have you muddled with WMP configuration settings, simple
things such as ticking or unticking checkboxes?
Is the laptop new, have you ever been able to rip audio CD's
using WMP?
It's a HP laptop, have you registered with HP and checked
the support link. An OEM of HP's standing will have FAQ
and troubleshooters for your specific model of lapop.
