If this is Windows XP, set AU to Automatic and BITS to Manual.

1) Are you trying to update automatically, manually, or via an Update
site using Internet Explorer ?
2) What warning are you referring to ?
3) When did some of the services become an issue ... and, when was the
last time the system was scanned for the presence of malware ?
Please provide some pertinent info so that someone *may* assist you.
Also, include ** at least the last 50 or so lines ** of the
WindowsUpdate.log after another attempt at updating:
