Hello,

since 2 weeks im not able to search for updates any more. I have Vista
Ultimate.

I tried the standalone Installer of the Windows Update Manager 3.0 but it
fails with the same error.

Here's a samle of the error from the log.

Cheers,
Alexander

HelloAlexander,

See MVP MowGreen's reply to an earlier post this month involving the error:

0x800f0900 CBS_E_XML_PARSER_FAILURE
unexpected internal XML parser error.

See if running this tool resolves the error:

AU Check (v78a)
http://www.codeplex.com/aureset/Rele...eleaseId=17263

Download and *save* it. After the download completes close all open
programs and browsers.

*** Temporarily disable the installed antivirus/security
suite/anti-malware/3rd party softwares. This includes all services nd
processes associated with them. Either consult the User Guide or the
manufacturer's web site to learn how this is accomplished.
You can use the following steps to Clean Boot Vista if the above task is
too complicated: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean
boot in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

*Enable* the native Vista firewall as the system must be connected to
the net when the tool runs so that it can downloaded needed updating
software components. ***

Now run au_check_v78a_codeplex.exe by *right* clicking it and choosing
'Run as administrator'. Allow it time to complete it's operation.
Reboot afterwards.

See if the system can update now.

Hello Engel,

yes, I found this post, too. I forgot to mention that this solution doesn't
work either.

I downloaded the Windows Update Manager (WUMA) redist and tried to nstall it
manually as it was suggested by AU Check. Didn't work - the installer failed
with the same error.

I ran the AU Check 78a again - this time with a Clean Boot (using msconfig).
I ran the redist installer again. It failed.

I tried to run the installer with /wuforce but it failed again.

I tried /uninstall with the latest 3 WUMA versions. It uninstalled the .788
successfully. But manual installation failed again.

I rebooted the system and now the WIndows Update worked normally. Some of
the above things must have helped.

And now I have got the error again! Can it be that the error is caused by a
bug in the current version of the Windows Update Manager?

Cheers,
Alexander

0x800f0900 CBS_E_XML_PARSER_FAILURE unexpected internal XML parser error.
Something's corrupted somewhere.
Have you tried running a check disk and clearing out the temporary download
folder for Windows updates?

Perhaps contact MS - how to contact Microsoft for support issues, visit the
International Support Web site:
https://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

Yes, I did both. No errors from chkdsk. I cleande the WURedir and SelfUpdate
Folder in SoftwareDistribution.

I try to contact the support, thanks for the link.

What seems strange is that SelfUpdate contains the .784 version of WUA. But
I downloaded some updates yesterday once so it must have been the .788
(current latest version) to run an update, mustn't it?

Maybe related to the error where WUA doesn't recognize already installed
updates ...

Cheers,
Alexander
