This has happened two times: I reformatted my hard drive, installed a fresh copy of windows XP (home edition), and immediately updated my system with the service packs on the official website.

Everything has gone fine, with one exception: When I shut down my computer, it instantly starts back up again. It stays off for a second, then spontaneously reboots. This only happened after installing the service pack. It didn't happen before.

I tried turning off the automatic restart feature (upon system failure). It still does the same things. I don't have the same symptoms as these links give: No error messages.

It's linked to windows update somehow. Because my system worked fine before using it, both times.

I tried turning off the auto restart feature. It made no difference. It still happens: My computer works fine until i use windows update.

I don't get any error messages like those links describe: My computer goes completely off without any fans buzzing, for one second, then it boots back up.
