I'm using the latest live messenger 8.0.0812 on my winxp sp2 machine from
quite sometime now, 2 days agoi suddenly msn started acting strange, cannot
logout or change status(all options greyed out), showed everybody online,
erased my personal message, erased my nick(showed the email), etc.

i've uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it(downloaded the latest one
just in case), it's been 10 minutes and it's still "loging in", if i put a
wrong pasword it bounces immediatly.

I've also logged in on my office, with same version and works ok, also tried
web messenger from my home PC(the one with the problems) and also works ok.

The diagnostic option in msn also shows everything ok.

now this happened to me before on another PC, and could never solve it, no
viruses present(AV installed and up 2 date), just stays signing in forever,
and maybe logs on totally broken.

any help?

thanks in advance

1.open run
2. type "regedit"
3. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\MSNMessenger\ Policies and
delete the key named "contacts.msn.com"
4. Exit and restart messenger.

I deleted the entire "policies" branch and it worked ok

Hi,

It doesn't make any difference, the proxy stuff runs ontop of this.
