Could someone help please. I have a HP Pavilion a6511 purchased 6 weeks
ago running Vista Home Premium. I installed Lavasoft ad-aware and then
my PC would not start. The loading bar just kept going for ever. I had
to switch off and on again. I then receive a message stating the system
was unable to start and recommends starting in system recovery mode
which I then do. I also receive a message stating that Norton has been
disabled. The PC will restart okay but if shut down will not start. I
uninstalled Ad-aware and it worked okay. I then installed Spybot but
have the same problem again. HP are of no use so can anyone help me
please? I want to remove Norton once the free trial is up and am worried
that I will not be able to install another security system.

Hi, you may wish to download the norton removal tool wich may wel
allow you to install other software

'Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
(http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039

Never run More than one anti-malware program at the same time in Liv
Mode. I will not recommend a particular program as each has it's pro
and cons. microsoft's own list is here but others are available ..

I've Vista Home Premium SP1 and am running both Norton Internet Security
2008 and SpybotS&D; there's no incompatibility between those two, and
Norton's been running fine for me since March. Seems to me this is a
system-specific problem of some sort.

Thanks for your advice. However, I got as far as removing Norton an
then found I was unable to acess the internet! Done system restore whic
removed Spybot (I had already removed Ad-aware) but still unable t
access internet. Tried everything I could think of then finall
reinstalled Norton from the System Recovery mode and can now access th
internet again. Does this mean that I have to have Norton regardless a
to whether I want it or not

No. Certainly not. It's on none of my computers, and I have no problems.
You're doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what.

I uninstalled Norton as when I clicked on the removal tool it said about
needing to save registration key which I don't have as the PC came with
a 60 day free trial of Norton. Although I reinstalled it via System
Recovery and I could then access the internet I cannot actually see
Norton in here. I had a page come up telling me I had no anti virus
installed so have downloaded AVG. Until I shut down and start up again I
won't know if I am still having the problem with starting up.
Unfortunately I am not feeling too great at the moment so am going to
leave it now until tomorrow when I hope I can think more clearly! Thank
you all for your help and I wil let you know what happens.
