i try to update my window XP home edition. when i start to run ( explorer7).
it show me [Error number: 0x80070422] then got a tips for me to fix the
problem :

The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is
not running:

Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install
high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more
quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with
troubleshooting, if needed)
To make sure these services are running:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click
Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button.
6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer
Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply.
8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button.
9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click
Properties.
10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button.
If this does not resolve the problem you may request help from one of the
following resources.

>>> but when i try on the Automatic Updates setting. is show disable, when i put to automatic, or manual start it... it also will jump to disable... is anyone out there can help me....... and recently.... i use my explorer7 to browse,..... some website i can go in, some like yahoo, google, cannot be load, is there any problem with my window? any... Most likely cause: A rootkit-protected hijackware infection (i.e., Vundo &
ZLOB & SDBot-variant). You will need the assistance of an expert to clean
the machine.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Same problems I have been going through for about 10 days ...
-----------
(1) Cannot download windows updates gets stuck -- sometimes just white
screen -- or page not found error etc === all my windows services settings
are as suggested/recommended.
(2) I cannot access Yahoo, Google and many other sites. I reloaded IE 7,
tried firefox - no use.
(3) I have been paying for a full suite of tools from McAfee - they did not
find anything - I tried to update their software - browser gets stuck on
their websites as well.
(4) I ended up downloading PC Tools scanners Spyware Doctor (their website
did work) -- and it found various spyware -- dont know how i got them if I
already have McAfee that is supposed to be protecting me ) == I had to
purchase PC Tools product to actually clean what it found == long story short
-- NO USE after all the clean up it did. I also tried Windows OneCare online
tool -- it did not find anything wrong either.
(5) Bottom line -- browser doesnt work on many sites including Yahoo,
Google, windows updater, McAfee download pages == browser does work well on
Wimbledon website ) I have been watching scores and following tennis and
praying that my computer will get better -- reading all the message boards
--- trying everything that I have not tried so far == I will try getting some
preist/guru/pandit/rabbi to come and bless my computer.
(6) BTW ... I am not a total idiot when it comes to computers -- though I
dont manage/maintain them for living - i know little about them. I talked to
some experts in town that I know -- they said they have seen the same problem
before, but those computers they dealt with were not very important/critical
-- so they just reinstalled everything starting from a clean slate
(7) i started backing up my important files and waiting for some miracle to
save my computer -- I like not to go through total re-install if possible.

PA Bear: Thanks for taking time to provide some guidance - I knew something
of that magnitude is wrong ... I am learning a lot in the process though. I
will give this some more of my time (trying some of the tools and forums you
suggested) and take it to a local shop as you suggested.

Thanks again.
