Cannot Start BITS: Error 123

I've been unable to download updates for Windows for some time, and when I've
attempted to start BITS as a fix, I've been given this error message:

Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

The current listed path is:

\SystemRoot\C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

Is there a way to correct this so I can start up BITS again?

(Currently running XP Home Edition version 2002, Service Pack 2)

Start -> Run -> regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\BITS
Look into the value called "ImagePath", and edit the content into
%SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

Restart Windows afterwards and you should be fine.
