Cannot start SBS Web Applications

2008 SBS Server Migrated from 2003 SBS Server
SBS Web Applications will not start, "This website cannot be started.
Another web site may be using the same port"
Goal: get OWA working without needed to trick IIS

This problem has been ongoing since the install of 2008 SBS server.
Currently IIS will not automatically start SBS Web Applications due to the
Default Web Site and SBS Web Applications using the same HTTPS bindings. The
only way I have managed to get them to work is change the bindings to 444,
start it, then change it back to 443. This only works until IIS is restarted
or the server reboots. I would like to come to a permanent solution. I have
tried various methods found in other news post searching Google but none of
them come to a resolution and no steps have proven helpful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What did you change on the Default Website? OOB, the Default Website is
not using 443.

Thanks for your post and Steve's input.

I am with Steve that it seems there was something wrong with the configuration of the Default Web Site. Default Web Site should only use 80 port. The by default IIS 7.0
settings of their "Site Bindings" should like below:

[Default Web Site]
Type: IP address: Port: Host name:
1. http All Unassigned 80 <blank>


[SBS Web Applications]
Type: IP address: Port: Host name:
1. http All Unassigned 80 Sites
2. http All Unassigned 80 remote.sbsname.com
3. https All Unassigned 443 <blank>
SSL certificate: remote.sbsname.com

Please have a check. Stop the Default Website, delete the 443 binding from its properties.

That did it. Maybe something got migrated over from the old server. New
client, might have missed something when going over their old config.

Wrong configuration of the Default Web Site due to migrated from old server. Default Web Site should not use 443 port.


Resolution:

Check [SBS Web Applications] and [Default Web site] settings.
Stop the Default Website, delete the 443 binding from its properties.
