Cannot Start Windows Update

I cannot get Windows Update to start. The error# I get back is 0x800B0001.

I have tried all 10 methods suggested in KB822798 for fixing this and none
of them have worked.

As far as I tell Cryptographic services is loaded and started.

I can't open any office 2003 products either! I think, I got a virus or
something...

I have problems too. Same errors as you guys. My Norton Systemworks virus
scan doesnt work now and I cant seem to load my virus scan. My msn messenger
is screwed too. Can someone helps please.

I'm having the same problem. Whenever I try to run a Norton Antivirus scan or
use some other software the computer completely freezes after a few minutes
and nothing works - I can't even get ALT-CTR-DELETE to work. HELP!!!

Fortunately my Norton Antivirus still runs, but it doesn't find anything.

I'm worried about this being a worm that modifies the Cryptographic Services
where the system thinks they are running but none of the MS install apps are
able to validate their update.inf files.

I tried reinstalling XP service pack 2 and it failed claiming it couldn't
validate the integrity of update.inf and to make sure cryptographic services
are running.

Unless someone has some ideas soon, I'm afraid I'll have to wipe my system
and rebuild it.

I was bit by this one this morning Mar 23 2006 around 8 am. First
thing I noticed was security popup that looks like MS or AV asking if I
want to allow a certain exe to access the web. I think I said no, not
sure why it came up. Now I can't run windows update. The only fixes
posted are re-registering dlls and that doesn't work for me. Smells
like a virus or worm but as usual I think MS needs to come up with a
repair and patch for it. Otherwise there is a bug on the WU site which
makes it work for some PCs but not others? I have also tried clearing
the SoftwareDistribution cache which didn't help.

One other symptom: I try to add http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to
my list of trusted sites and IE says I can't because its already in
another zone, but I can't find it in any other zones.

beepboop...that was exactly the problem I faced. I remember the security
popup and and I said no. Cant remember where it came out from. I now cant run
window update. Msn messenger is not working. Norton virus cannot activate to
clear any viruses. At the moment, my pc is vurnerable as my virus scan is not
loaded. Im really cheesed off bec I cant even reload the SP2.

I can access Windows Update NOW!!!!

Either of two things happened..

1. I got the 3/23/06 definitions update for Norton and it found a virus
called trojan.abwiz.f which it cleaned off.

After cleaning the virus Windows Update loaded.

2. Microsoft has fixed Windows Update and the virus is unrelated.

I can access Windows Update NOW!!!!

Either of two things happened..

1. I got the 3/23/06 definitions update for Norton and it found a virus
called trojan.abwiz.f which it cleaned off.

After cleaning the virus Windows Update loaded.

2. Microsoft has fixed Windows Update and the virus is unrelated.
