Cannot stop Automatic Update service in services.msc

Hi

I had the Error 80248011 issue with Automatic update, and I tried the
renaming the Software Distribution method. However I cannot stop the
Automatic Update service, and hence cannot rename the folder.

I check the BITS service - this stops and starts without a problem.

Other than reinstalling windows, or rebooting in Safe mode and trying
to rename the Software Distribution folder from there, does anyone know
how to resolve the issue ?

Why the service is having issues? Is this a corrupted Windows file?

I'll answer this one myself. Went into safe mode. Deleted the Software
Distribution file. Rebooted. Stopped and started the AU and BITS
services. Went onto microsoft V5Windowsupdate site and downloaded two
new patches. All seems well.
