Hello.

I have had a case running with the privatenews news group, but since we got
problems when syncronizing the phone i was asked to get help here instead

Here are a the case logg:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
First Question:
Hello.

I have a customer that wants to connect a Windows Mobile Phone running
Windows Mobile OS to the SBS2003 server at work so that he can read e-mails.
I have checked a little my self, and from what i understand this require a
certificate that has to be bought, is this correct?
I this the only thing that is required to get this to work?
What certificate do Microsoft recommend here, and where can this be bought?
What price range are we talking?

If the customer choose to buy a certificate, what do we have to do on the
server, and on the mobile phone to get this to work?

First Answere:

Hello Håkon,

Thank you for posting here! My name is Dorothy. We will work together on
this issue.

From your post, I understand that you would like to deploy ActiveSync on the
SBS 2003 server, so that user can read his email messages on the Windows
Mobile device. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.

Before moving on, I would like to explain that when trying to deploy a
mobile device on your Windows SBS network, the following steps need to be
implemented:

Step 1: Install ActiveSync
Step 2: Enable mobile services for users.
Step 3: Configure the firewall and Web services.
Step 4: Install a certificate.
Step 5: Configure Windows Small Business Server 2003
Step 6: Configure device synchronization.
Step 7: Test the deployment.

Please refer to the following articles for more detailed steps to deploy
ActiveSync on the SBS server.

Deploying Windows Mobile 5.0 with Windows Small Business Server 2003

As for your concern of certificate, I would like to explain that the purpose
of using a certificate is to help securely synchronize data by using the
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. On the SBS 2003, You can use either of
the following two options to install a certificate for Windows Mobile
devices:

1. Third-party certificate: You need to buy and install a certificate from a
trusted root certification authority (CA). The certificate has a root
certificate store present on the mobile device. This is the preferred
solution.

2. Self-issued certificate: You can install a self-issued certificate that
Windows SBS generates. You do not need to buy it.

For more information about certificate, you can refer to "Step 4: Install a
Certificate" section in the above articles. It has provided detailed steps
in how to install a third-party/self-issued certificate.

Second Question:

hello Dorothy.

I have done all the configuration on the server a while back, but the
customer had to send his phone to service so have not been able to test this
befor now. But when the customer connect his phone to the computer and tries
to syncronize with Microsoft Active Sync he gets the following error:

Microsoft Active Sync:
Cannot reach the server, error/support code is 85010018

What i can gather this could be related to proxy? The SBS2003 server is
running proxy, and the client computer where he has connected the phone is a
member of the domain and running Microsoft Firewall client for ISA.

What should we do here?
