I have tried uninstalling Windows Live messenger multiple times, it says it
has been uninstalled but I still see it in Add/Remove programs.
I have tried downloading it and reinstalling it but keep getting the
following error:

system error details
code 0x8000ffff
Description: catastrophic failure

I read a few articles from this forum and tried to do installes from some of
the links but it tells me that I have a newer version on my system and it
then says that I should remove it.

Need some guidance on this.

Then go into the safe mode and delete from there. If it stills says its
Unistalled then just leave it. It might just be a glitch.

Hi,

You can't install or uninstall these products in safe mode as they use the Windows Installer,
which is not available in safe mode.

Just "deleting" files won't help as you'll end up having to use ZapMessenger to even get the
install started.
