Cannot update anything

When I try the update process everything seems to be fine, it goes through
the whole process telling me update has successfully been done. But when I
look at my system afterwards nothing has changed (ex. Service Pack 4
installed but on the computer its still Service Pack 2). If anyone can help
thank you!
