cannot update/genuine OS/XP

I DOWNLOADED DEFENDER;THEN AFTER THAT JUST CANNOT GET ANY MORE DONE. LISTS
"89"DOWNLOADS" AS AVAILABLE OR NEEDED TO BE THE UPDATE...SEEMS TO BE THE
PROBLEM FOR QUITE A BIT OF PEOPLE RIGHT NOW . ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS... BE
GLAD TO LISTEN. EAGER TO FIND SOLUTION...
