Cannot update - getting IE error

I've been having some PC issues in the past week - and now the latest problem
is that I'm using Windows Live One Care. It is recommending that I check for
updates and when I click on it, the Microsoft Windows update page opens in an
IE browser window, then stops loading and the error window pops up. Any
suggestions on how to fix this?

I was plagued by a MS update / svchost issue for a week now. I was about to
format and reinstall, when I read and applied Bill Barretts solution on
today's date entitled "svchost and Windows Update Solution". I was back to
normal in minutes (broadband downloads).
