Cannot update manually or automatically

With automatic updates, it used to run through the "installing" dialogs and
say they'd been installed (but then repeat the process every 10 minutes).
Now it fails when it tries to install, and says over again that I have new
updates to install.

With Automatic Updates turned off, I can't use the Windows Update page. It
errors and tells me to turn Automatic Updates back on.

I never had problems until I installed SP2. I haven't installed an update
successfully ever since then.

Most recent error message when trying to go to the Windows Update page is:
[Error number: 0x80240030] The website has encountered a problem and cannot
display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might
help you solve the problem

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

I turned Automatic Updates back on. It has stopped failing. Now it says it
has 4 updates for me to install. I watch it install. It says they're done.
Then 10 minutes later it says it has the same 4 updates to install. Rinse
Repeat. No error messages. It does this non-stop until I disable Automatic
Updates again. Which doesn't solve the problem. It just makes it stop
telling me I have those 4 updates to install. I can't post the whole log for
