Cannot update --- No error message

I recently had to do a System Recovery on Windows XP SP2. Now when I go to
the Windows Update site it says it is going to check to see if I have the
latest update software and then nothing happens. I do not get an error
message of any kind. I ran Belarc Advisor and it says I have a lot of
updates missing so I need to get them done. I am also having a lot of IE 6
Script errors (mostly "Object Expected") and have had problems with other
Active X operations. Can someone please help me with any of this?

Since I'm not getting any responses here I'm wondering if this is not an
"Update" problem but rather another problem related to Active X in some way.
If this is the case, can someone please direct me to where on Microsoft.com I
can get help with that issue? So far I have not found anything on my own.
