cannot update security patches- how to get them on disk?

I need to update the security patches, but each time I go through the steps
it just hangs up where it says it is about to start. Is there some place to
download and install them manually? Is there a CD disk that can be gotten
with the patches? Where are the patches downloaded to my computer before
installing?
Any commens will be appreciated.

I have been going through something kind of the same since NOV 9th-some
installed but I have seven that just won"t install.Don't know why.Did the
validation thing plus a few things from tech sites that I didn't think would
screw up puter.Did
several virus scans-showed nothing but can not install updates from
microsoft or windows.I have Windows XP home edition.I really wish Microsoft
would look into this cause I don't know what else to do!!!! My system is
going to end up toast.
