Ever since I changed Sympatico modems in Feb. for a router which I returned
in July, I stopped receiving automatic updates. The Microsoft Update Welcome
page says
*Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or
installed on your computer. To continue Register or reinstall the files for
me now (Recommended). I keep returning to this page after confirming to
continue. I tried reading about more steps required to solve the problem, but
nothing helps.

Apparently I had erased SKU017.CAB so I downloaded it now and put it in its
MSO Cache folder. Still no update downloads are possible.
I have SP1 and SP2, plenty of memory and have Windows XP.

The condition where this message is received "Files required to use
Microsoft Update etc"
seems to be cured by running this command in the Start / Run line:

regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Do this and then try updating again.
