Cannot Update Win2k

When trying to run Win Update I get error 0xC8000423 . How do I get past this
error?

0x80244030 WU_E_PT_ECP_INIT_FAILED The external cab processor
initialization did not complete.

Some explanation, huh ? My guess is that 'something' isn't allowing the
system to update the required files needed to update the OS.
What antivirus/security software is installed, Rick ?

I have no idea where I come up with error 0x80244030 when you had posted
error 0xC8000423. Sorry about that. Perhaps I've seen so many 'new'
error codes in this NG from Vista that I'm now totally whacko. <w>

Is the version of McAfee installed from an ISP or a retail copy ?

Open the WindowsUpdate.log located by going to Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK.
Start at the bottom of the log for the most recent entries and work your
way back up to the top.
Please post the first section that contains ERROR, WARNING, or FATAL
and the 20 or so lines above that.
