I cannot get Vista to import pictures from my Canon EOS 20D digital SLR
camera. The software from the CD installed fine. When i try to import the
pictures from the camera, a pop up says, 'Microsoft office Document Scanning
does not support this type of device.' I had no problem with the Picture and
Fax viewer in Windows XP importing the pictures.

Is there a work around for this? Am I doing something wrong? Please email me
privately at;

or post a reply here.

Thanks,

William

Just buy a card reader.

Woogbear,

I'm seeing the same thing with my dRebel. I installed the XP WIA driver, and
I get the same message. Help says it's supposed to pop up and say Import
with Windows, or at least that's supposed to be one of the options.
Hopefully an update is forthcoming from either Canon or Microsoft to resolve
this issue. It's a showstopper for me. I'm running Vista in VMWare until I
get all the drivers working. I know it's Beta, so it may not show up until
just after RTM, but I'm hoping it's sooner.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Card reader isn't an
option, it doesn't recognize the orientation of the pictures the way loading
them direct does.

Thanks,

TowerDave

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers completely, then changing the camera
connection mode (in the camera) to PTP (i think thats what its called).
This is how i use mine under XP. When you connect the camera it should be
auto detected and then function under the 'camera and scanner wizard' or be
accessible under 'my computer'
Not sure if the dRebel has this function though.
I have not tried mine under vista but if i do and it works i will post back
here.

Cheers

CrAy-Z,

This camera is plug and play in XP, using the WIA driver that comes with the
camera. Apparently, Vista doesn't have the Scanner and Camera wizard (yet?)
so the only program that can be launched when the camera is connected is
Microsoft Document Imaging which doesn't support the camera.

If you get your 20D working, let us know.

Thanks,

TowerDave

I got through the situation by purchasing a USB card reader for all of $12.00. I now prefer using the flash memory card reader since I do not have to install any software to use it and it works great under Vista.

I contacted Canon Support by email and they replied that they will not have drivers and software for Windows Vista until the final release of Vista. However, I got around the situation by purchasing a USB flash memory card reader. I not have to install any drivers or software to use it and it imports the pictures perfectly.

If I can get what I want done and not install anything to do it, then that is just fine by me.

William,

I have a card reader, but with my dRebel, if I take a picture with the camera vertical instead of horizontal, it loads them in sideways, where if I load them in directly from the camera, the orientation is preserved.
