He emailed me back and said that he went to the server that hosts our website and all the DNS information was correct. My boss is telling me that "it happened before to us, so it is very likely that it is our problem". Then I explained why it happened and that when I pointed the record to the new IP address, it then worked. I even called Network Solutions, and they said that as long as the site can be seen from the outside, it is an inside problem. I am not familiar with WordPress, so it is very difficult to troubleshoot a problem when I only have half of the tools. The error isn't even a "page cannot be found" error. It is either "The website declined to show this webpage" or "Under Construction” or “403 Forbidden”. I am thinking that if we are getting those errors, we must be getting through, yet we can’t get in. If it was a website issue, why can you get through from the outside? |

In addition to Jonathan's suggestions, I would talk to the developer to see exactly what he changed. He could have simply changed the hostheader, which can cause all of this, or he may have incorrectly set a redirect in the site design. It seems that all of this started with the developer changing things, so that would be the first place to look. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. Also, when I called Network Solutions, they said it was operable so the problem is within my network. I have already spoken to the developer, and he claims that he looked on the website to see if anything was set up incorrectly, and it wasn't. He also claims that as long as he can get onto it from home, it must be my network. Would the suggestions you made pertain to WordPress? We didn't have this problem when it was in Windows format. Is it possible that as well as a record pointing to the external site, I need a reverse lookup as well? |

Is it possible that > as well as a record pointing to the external site, I need a reverse lookup > as well? Marie, I assume you are only talking about getting to the website by using "www" in front of it, and not without using "www" such as, http://domain.com. If you are trying to get to it without the www address, that is a little more involved to configure it and requires installing IIS on your domain controllers/DNS servers, which I don't advise. Since you have the same external and internal name, I need to know exactly how you created the internal "www" record so it can resolve the external IP address. In the meantime, read my blog on this scenario and common problems associated with this scenario. It explains everything regarding the DNS side of it, which *appears* to be the problem, or simply you are trying to get to it without the www in front of the domain name. Split Zone or no Split Zone - Can't Access Internal Website with External Name or external site with same name. http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/arc...rnal-name.aspx -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. I asked for help, and I have tried and done EVERYTHING you mentioned. Back to the issue. I asked the web developer about the host headers, etc. and his reply was "All I do is tell the domain what folder on the netsol web server to find the web pages. Thats it. I make no other changes with the DNS etc". We are typing www.domain.com in the address window. To create the pointing record, I went to DNS, forward lookup zones, our domain. I right clicked on the domain name folder, clicked on new host (a), and on the where it says Name, I put www and I put the ip address where it says ip address. I have create associated pointer checked, but it said it couldn't because the referenced reverse lookup zone cannot be found. Just for the heck of it, I will try a new delegation like the article states. I just want to thank you guys for all the help you are giving me. Hopefully, I will resolve this. > |

Also, in a command prompt, can you ping www.domain.com? If so, what IP address does it reply with? One other question, it would be helpful to also see an ipconfig /all of the server. I'm starting to think the server may be configured with an external DNS address in it's IP properties. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. I can access the site, however it's slow loading. When I ran an nslookup on it, it's slow responding, too. It even timed out on me on a couple of occasions. I'm kind of surprised that happened considering it's Netsol's nameservers. As for AD, apparently things look ok, and you are not using an outside DNS server. But what I can suggest is to make some minor changes, and one major one. As for the minor changes, all of your DCs point to .252 as their first DNS address. I would actually suggest, as well as many other engineers, to point to itself as the first address, and then to a partner DC. Using three DNS servers is really not necessary. THe client side resolver service (even on a DC/DNS), will check the first. If the first has a NXDOMAIN response, meaning not found, it lookst at that as an answer and will not look further in the list.If the first response is no response, or NULL, then it will remove the first from the eligible resolvers list, and move on to the second one. However getting a NULL will only be after a time out period before it goes to the second. If the same happens on the second, the time out the client side resolver will wait will have expired. Therefore having three of them doesn't matter because it may never see the third one due to the client side resolver timing out waiting for a response. The major change suggestion is for the multihomed DC, APPSRV1. A multihomed DC is defined as a DC with more than one NIC, IP and/or RRAS-VPN installed. This causes havoc with DNS registrations for the DC and consequential issues with AD communications and functions. It is a well known issue. You have two options. 1) Move RRAS/VPN role to another non-DC (member server), and either disable one of the NICs or team it up with the other, or 2) make necessary change with the operating system regarding DNS registration, including registry changes. Please read my blog on this issue, with much more detail regarding why this is necessary. Multihomed DCs with DNS, RRAS, multiple IPs, and/or PPPoE adapters http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/arc...-adapters.aspx Back to the website problem.... Are there no other records created for www, whether a delegation (which would look like a yellow folder called www), or any other records? I assume you are trying to get to it by using www.empressems.com and not simply http://empressems.com, correct? Using http://empressems.com will not work. Ace |

I am seeing exactly the same issue for my customer with an in-house Exchange Server. When I revised their website and hosted it on a different server, exactly the same result-they cannot see the website from the office, and experienced network support inside office cannot resolve. Did you find a solution to this problem? thanks, Marcia "Marie" wrote: > > > "Ace Fekay [MVP-DS" <Ace Fekay [MVP-DS>," wrote: > > > "Marie" <> wrote in message > > news:B6D7EC25-B775-4549-B64C-... > > > > > > > > > I have not been sitting around for 3 days waiting for someone else to solve > > > this issue.
