I just finished setting up Vista on my Media Center PC. I set it up on
a new drive so no prolems with upgrades etc.

I used my old C: drive as a spare (its now D but although vista
recognzed it, it won't let me open the drive in explorer etc. I
suspected that it may be a permissions problem, so I went into the
properties of the drive and the security tab, and enabled everything for
Admins and System. Still no access!

How do I access my drive?

I'm guessing that it is an ownership problem. Try this link. Post
back whether it helps your problem or not.

Tried both the automatic and manuel ways and although it seems to go
through the process the end result is that when I double-click on the
hard disk, I still get access denied. What's wierd is that obviously
these actions can access the drive and when I watch the process work I
can see filenames fly by, so I
am quite sure there's no hardware problem, just an annoying Vista
security issue (reminds me of UNIX). Anyway any other ideas?

Hopefully someone else will have some other ideas.

I got around my problem by turning off UAC.
If anyone knows a more "elegant" way to solve this problem, let me
know. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. How did you turn off UAC? I piggy backed my
old HD and have the same problem. I can't access any files until I give
permission. I have a load of files and this will take forever. Did turning
off the UAC get you to access all the files? I want to give permission to
the hard drive.
