I have Windows XP Home Edition, and I mostly use Firefox 1.5 for browsing,
but I also use IE6 sometimes too. My problem is that I cannot access either
the Microsoft Update site or the Windows Update site from anywhere else
within Microsoft.com. When I try to link to either of those pages I get one
of the following messages in my address bar:
http://update.microsoft.com/WindowsU....aspx?Error=16
http://update.microsoft.com/Microsof....aspx?Error=16
In Firefox I get an error message page that says:
"The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server
is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to
accept
cookies."
This happens despite the fact that I have configured everything on my system
to accept cookies. I do not have trouble with any other web sites - they all
seem to be able to set cookies as needed. The same hangup occurs in IE6,
except that I just get a blank page.
The ASP.NET website has a forum posting suggesting that Error 16 is defined
as follows:
"Error 16 Value of type 'ASP.company_aspx' cannot be converted to
'System.Web.UI.Page'.
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temp orary ASP.NET"
I can't find any other definition of Error=16 in Microsoft.com, so this must
be it. Unfortunately it means nothing to me, since I know nothing about ASP.
I'm hoping that there is someone really savvy out there who can help me with
this. All contributions will be apppreciated. I will post this on the
ASP.NET forum too.
