Can't add contacts?

I can't add contacts. I'm sure i'm not the only one. Is there ANY solution to
this? I've reinstalled and repaired WLM, didn't help.

This really sucks for a lot of reasons...someone get a solution for this.

What happens is:

I go to add them, they get put into my list, but in the part where they
don't exist as part of my active list. I than see the "Click here to add to
list" on their message window, and you click it and you get the arrow +
hourglass forever, and it does nothing.

Come on Microsoft, you can figure this out.

Same. XP2 with the newest download of WLM. It's really annoying. A lot of
business contacts (about 6) can't add me.

Hi all, on another post Martys has given a fix which worked perfectly for me,
i'll add some help too in case you don't understand:

Delete the following reg keys - (go to START - RUN, type REGEDIT, and look
for the following and delete it:

If you have Messenger 8.0: delete
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\ Policies

If you have Messenger 8.1: delete
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\WindowsLive\C ommunicationsClient\Shared

If your unsure what version of messenger you have open messenger, press HELP
at the top, then ABOUT.

Be sure to log out, EXIT Messenger then restart your computer.

All should be fixed :-)

Jay.

I show WLM version 8.0 but I neither have a "help" option at the top, nor do
I have a "Policies" in the registry. I found the version by checking out my
shortcut target file.
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\
string. I have 2 problems:
All my contacts are showing "offline" even when landline calls verify that
they are online... also, I can't add contacts and have the same phenomena as
Jay. I can sign-in now. No error message shown in 2 days. Last error was
8004882c.
I'm on WinXP SP2
What's my fix????
Thank-you

Greetings,

Try removing the MSN Messenger folder from %appdata%

To do this, go to Start, run, and type "%appdata%"

Then, delete the MSN Messenger folder

Once this is done, uninstall Windows Live Messenger, and reinstall it.

See if that works for you.

There is no MSN Messenger folder in my %appdata%
Should I look elsewhere?

Sorry, forgot to add Microsoft into the string

The correct location is

%appdata%/microsoft/

You can go to this by copying this string, into your run prompt

By going to Start, then run, and pasting this into the text box.
