Suddenly, I cannot add any new web sites I find while browsing to the
Favorites list in Internet Explorer. The error message is: "Unable to
Create [whatever the name of the web site] Unspecified Error"

Does anybody know what's going on?

Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;

2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

More:

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:

Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

The OS is Vista. The behavior persists if I start IE7 in No Add-Ons mode.
Doing an IE7 Reset also makes no difference.

I did learn after my first post on this problem that I can add a web site to
Favorites if I just add it to the general Favorites folder, that is, if I
don't try putting it in an existing sub-folder. I can also create a new
sub-folder under Favorites (e.g., Favorites/Alaska Travel) and add web sites
to it.

But if I try adding a site to any PREVIOUSLY EXISTING sub-folder, I get the
error message and IE7 refuses to allow it. I have tried renaming some of my
old folders under Favorites, then adding new web sites to them, but this
doesn't work either.

Yes, I am using Vista, and I noticed that just before I started having this
problem this morning, Microsoft had sent out an automatic Vista update of
some sort. So it mahy have something to do with that update.

The behavior persists if I start IE7 in No Add-Ons mode. Doing an IE7 Reset
also makes no difference.

Have you tried run as administrator?
1. Right-click the icon that you use to run the program, and then click Run
as administrator.
2. When you are prompted for an administrator password or for a
confirmation, type the administrator password, or click Continue.

I went to this website, did what was advised, and got all the right
responses. But it did not fix the problem. Thank you very much for finding
and suggesting this.

FYI, I did find a solution in the post from Gistcheckin, which is to launch
IE7 with a right click of the mouse and select "Run as Administrator." THis
allows me to add web sites to any Favorites folder I choose.

Sounds like it's a UAC (Permissions) problem, MH.
