Microsoft is offering a utility to stop the automatic update to SP2.
The page/link can be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
The problem is, it won't work!
1. First off the command line utility help message is wrong:
C:\Download\Microsoft\BlockXPSP2>blockxpsp2.cmd /H
This tool can be used to remotely block or unblock the delivery of
Windows XP SP
2 from Windows Update web site or Via Automatic Updates. The ability
to block de
livery of Windows XP SP2 will only be available for a limited time.
Please see
www.microsoft.com/technet/winxpsp2 for information on the
expiration
date.
Usage:
BlockXPSP2.cmd [<machine name>] [/B][/U][/H]
B = Block XP Service Pack 2 deployment
U = Allow XP Service Pack 2 deployment
H = Help
Example:
BlockXPSP2.cmd mymachine /B
The tool REQUIRES the machine name.
2. For some reason the utility wants to go outside my firewall. I let
it.
3. I get this bogus message: "Error: The network path was not found."
Any thoughts???
TIA
