I am trying to repair a friends advent laptop. after it boots up to user page
password and then goes to welcome window the desktop will not open. It does
eventially open to a blank dark page with only his curser showing. I can if I
use Esc,Ctrl,Alt and Del buttons eventialy get "Windows Task Manager "
This happened after a explorer 8 update down load. He also has a bad habbit
og shutting down from his power button.
He does not have a vista reboot or repair disc. He does though have an
"Advent driver and Utility " cd.
Can anyone Kindly help. I can only open his desktop in "Safe Mode & Network"
bootup

Log in as administrator on the laptop, then locate the folder for the
corrupt profile (under C:\Users) where the desktop won't load. Rename
it to another name (such as <profile_name.old>). Make a backup of the
data, then you can locate it in the registry and delete it. Log in as
the same user after deleting in the registry and rebooting the computer
as the same user. this will create a new profile that is not corrupt.
log back in as admin and copy all the data back to the new profile. See
the link below for more detailed instructions:
