Can't complete repair of XP HOME will not find Asms

On my home computer when the system is trying to start-up, the setup gets to
the installation part and then requests the Windows XP Home Service pack
#-cd. The message window has a path line of; GLOBALROOT/DEVICE/CDROM0/I386
and it also has a drop down box that includes D:/wlan/; C:/Windows and
finally C:Windows/inf. I've used all of them and I have tried entering the
cddrive names, drive letters, actual locations but every time I hit ok it
just sits there waiting for a correctly inputed drive path. I know the
information is on the CD because I had another computer with XP Home on and
did a repair install to it. It went right through, it found the CDDrive.
Has anyone else had this problem and successfully recovered from it with
the data on the drive still intact? Is there a way, short of wiping the
drive and starting from scratch, to have it recognize the drive and find the
files? (the computer will boot the cd and go through the motions of deleting
and recopying files for the repair but when it comes time to complete setup
it seems to ignore the fact the cddrive is there.)

Thank you for any help you can give.

"MrRT01",

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. This does not seem like a
Windows Update problem. Perhaps these other newsgroups would be more
helpful:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.windowsxp
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

Sincerely,
