Can't Connect Error 80072745

Hi,
I've just installed a Rangemax DG834PN (Wireless Router + ADSL Modem) in a
community centre which supports 13 networked PC's running XP SP2.

12 PC's are connected via an ethernet switch to router/modem and 1 laptop
via wireless. The Internet connection is via a proxy server over ADSL
broadband.
Everything is working wonderfully, full Internet access - wireless and
ethernet.....but, I cannot connect to Windows Live Messenger.

All was fine using a simple Modem interface but installing the router/modem
has disconnected our 'Kid's club' from WLM. I've tried reverting to Messenger
7.4 but I still get the same error message of 80072745
I've enabled/disabled Upnp in the firewall/router/XPSP2 I've tried port
forwarding, several suggested fixes posted here and elsewhere (eg. lower MTU
to 1400, open 443, remove policies from the registry etc.)
The firewall is set to [allow all out] and [disable all in] but even [allow
all in - dangerous, I know] displays the same error.

I've spoken to my ISP/proxy server and they assure me that Messenger is not
blocked by them.
Strange thing is, if I try the built in Messenger test, it says everything
is ok....all connections and ports are fine.

Am I missing something obvoius? Should I be kicking myself? Does anyone have
an answer?

Thx guys,
changing the MTU didn't help but starting from scratch using the Connection
Wizard of the router did.
Don't know why, but after running the wizard, I was able to connect to MSN.
All settings appeared the same as I had set them up..................
however, after running the router for about 2 weeks, successfully, the
Internet connection (wireless and ethernet) packed up completely.
I am returning this piece of junk from whence it came and I will not buy
Netgear again!
