This seems absurd but I have been helping someone with Windows Vista Home
Premium. A brand new HP/Compaq bought from curries. Couldn't get the AOL
disk to run on Vista so manually setup the router and used Windows Mail with
the IMAP protocol for e-mail. Fine he can browse the web and send/receive
e-mail. What he can't do is update Windows Defender or browse to
www.microsoft.com or www.microsoft.co.uk! Tried this on a Vista Business N
version and work nad had the same problem. Added Microsoft to the Trusted
Sites list in security and it went staright on!. Tried it on this mans PC and
it still doesn't work. Remember this is a brand new machine that hadn't been
on the et before I got there. Any ideas plase?

Hi

There is no proxy server. The computer is connected via a Belkin ASDL
router with built in firewall. I can't believe that the router would block
microsoft by default but it's worth checking it I suppose.
