Can't connect with Proxy

I have a problem with Firewall and Proxy settings. All pc's here (at work)
are connected to a Firewall (over 300 pc's), and that Firewall blocks all
traffic to *msn*, youtube and varius webpages

Some people (like me) need to connect to that webpages for xyz reasons, so,
they (the company) put a pc that is not stoped by the firewall. That pc have
a proxy and i connect through it to that blocked sites

The problem is that i can't make it work with Msn. I have this issue since
7.5. with 7.0 have no problems but now MSFT force us to update to 8.1 or 8.5

When i try to connect, i poen a msdos window and seee the traffic. I see
that some MSN connections are through the proxy and others not and are
blocked by the firewall

The cuestion now is.. why MSN uses some proxy connections and others not..
is like if there is not proxy settings and try to connect directly

I have this on connect (i'm butterfly) and with no answer. I have this on
beta group (now closed) and still no real answer

Any help ?

Greetings,

I assume you're just doing a netstat? Messenger will attempt all sorts of connections before
deciding on the proxy. If you really want to see what's happening, dump netstat and use
something like Wireshark instead.

Regardless, what kind of proxy are you using? Protocol, software, etc.?

as a workaround for the time being, you can use the updated version of MSN Messenger 7.0.

To do so, download from here:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...4-9505f47bed45

Then you'll need to engage compatibility mode so it doesn't force you to upgrade. To do so,
go to the \Program files\MSN Messenger folder, right click on the msnmsgr.exe file, choose
Properties, then the Compatibility tab, choose Windows 2000, click OK and then run Messenger
as per normal.

Hi SuNco,

Are you using an authenticating proxy server? If yes, then can you configure
your proxy server to force authentication for the following User Agent string:
MSN Explorer/9.0 (MSN 8.0; TmstmpExt)

Please let me know if that works.

Thanks,
AA - MSFT

I said to the network admin that configure this.. we go to the proxy and not
found any seemed to "force auth". The proxy is CensorNet, and i write them an
email

They say that must configure an exception to ".msn.com" but still not working

The firewall still block the Msn (i just think)

I can do any test with any sniff or whatever you say.. i want to use Msn

Hi SuNcO,

On the proxy server, do you see any setting where you are allowing the User
Agent string 'Mozilla/4.0'?

If there is such a setting, can you also add the User Agent string that I
suggested earlier:
MSN Explorer/9.0

Please let me know if that works.

thanks,

There is no option to add user agent

I download Trillian and Pidgin and works fine with this proxy and with an
extern proxy too.. but i only want Msn, no other
