can't connect to wsus server from XP computer

I set up WSUS in an ESX virtual machine and the entire install seemed
to proceed okay, including synchronization, etc.

I think I took the defaults for setting up the web server part, I did
not see anything amiss during the setup or after setup.

Within the WSUS server, connecting to the server via MMC works just
fine.

However, after setting up the WSUS console etc. on my XP box, I cannot
connect to it, I get errors about IIS, making sure it is started, etc.

I also can't do a simple http://wsus without getting an under
construction page...

I read there is no more WSUS web interface, it's all with the MMC now.

I added myself to the WSUS administrators group in the WSUS server,
too.

I'm very new to WSUS, should I start over and re-install it all
again??

This is the error about making sure IIS is configured and running etc.

Even within the server itself I get an under construction page for
http://wsus, and I have also set its IP in DNS.

This somehow fixed itself, now I can connect to the WSUS server from
my XP box.
Now I need to figure out how to add the servers I want to update.
Any explanatory comments would be appreciated.
