Can't Convince Microsoft Update To Ignore An Update

Microsoft Update tells me it has two updates for me to install. I don't want
either of them, because they're for Outlook, which I don't have installed. I
uncheck them, click Close, and check the box that says "Don't notify me about
these updates again". I click "OK" and everything seems ok. But...

Within a very few minutes it goes out hunting for updates again, and tells
me that the same two updates are available to me.

After going through this several times, magically one of the updates goes
away, but the second keeps coming back. AND...

Every time it goes hunting for updates, it brings my system to its knees,
with a svchost.exe process consuming 99 - 100% of the CPU, and about 100MB of
memory.

Please help me to fix these two problems.

Thanks!

Try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) & reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

If no joy, try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) &
reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
