Can't edit downloaded MP3s in WMP 11

I often download the replays of radio interviews which are available as MP3s. When the MP3 starts playing in WMP 11, the only option to edit is in the list pane, and that only lets me save it a playlist. I'll create a playlist to save the recording, but then I can't edit it, to rename the title (the recordings are often titled with a long list of numbers), album, artist, genre, year, etc. The "edit" option is greyed out. I can sync the playlist to my Walkman but the recording is then only accessible by "playlist" rather than the artist or genre, which is a pain and I don't want to have to end up with a huge list of playlists. I can't locate the recordings anywhere in the library, only in playlists. Please help! I'd be grateful for any advice.
