Can't export contacts

I'm trying to import contacts to my new Hotmail account, but in Windows Mail
am unable to export the contacts. According to Help I'm supposed to
"1) Open Windows Contacts
2) On the toolbar, click Export and click on the following formats: ...."
etc.

There is no "Export" button on my toolbar, nor when I try to customize the
toolbar there is no icon available for "Export"

The contacts came in to Windows Live Mail OK when I recently installed it,
but that doesn't get contacts to my Hotmail account. I'm probably missing
some obvious step and hoping someone can point me to the right direction.

Your Contacts folder has apparently switched from it's proper default
template.
Open Contacts
Right-click on a blank area of the right pane, and select "Customize this
folder"
in the pull-down box, select "Contacts"

I don't use it; but if it is like any other windows mail program, just click
on "file", then "import" or "export"
