Do you mean that you don't see the Taskbar? Or that you don't see any icons
on your Desktop? Or...??? Sorry, I don't understand.

I know that several posts related to that issue have been made here, and I'm
assuming you have tried those solutions since you mention removing the
KB834707 item. Do you have XP SP2 installed? You are using Windows XP,
right? What is displayed when you click Start/Run and type WINVER into
that line and press Enter?
This is a bit different, but the steps in the Resolution section to replace
some essential system files may help resolve your issue, so give them a try:

Does that item show in your Add&Remove list? So when you run Remove you see
that it can't be removed because some files are missing. Is that what is
happening? Do you have this folder on your system:
".:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB834707$" (again note that it will be a Hidden
folder, so you will have to enable that option within Explorer). If that
folder is there, try clicking this file:
"C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB834707$\spuninst\spunins t.exe" to see if that will
remove the KB item.
Last, do you have your original Windows XP CD? You may want/need to do a
Repair installation (just install Windows over top of itself). You should
not lose any data and it should clear up this issue. Although you will need
to apply recent updates again. If you aren't familiar with doing that, the
basic steps are here:

Michael Stevens has some good info worth reading about the Repair process
