So, maybe backup a bit and tell us what exactly the problem is:
1. Is Automatic Updates enabled?
2. Is he able to access Windows Update (
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)?
If not, could he *ever* access Windows Update?
3. If so, does Windows Update offer him any updates now? Can he
successfully install the updates via Windows Update?
Post any error messages in their entirety. (And it'd probably be best if he
posted here himself, if possible, instead of you.)
