Can't finish download of updates

Using Autoupdate or trying to download updates via explorer, files can not be
downloaded to the end. After file download "Checking download" appears and
another 200kB is downloaded, then "Checking download" and another 200k... and
so on.

I had stopped it when noticed that for 1 MB download my system downloaded 82
MB and still "Checking" and downloading something.

Do you have any idea how to solve that?
