Can't fix error 0x80072EE2, probably Ethernet problem

I've been trying for hours to solve this 0x80072EE2 (can get to WU5 but
can't find the updates) I've tried everything told in the previous posts but
had no success. There are 2 computers next to each other connected to an
broadband modem then distributed by a router in my apartment and the other
computer has no problems at all. Someone suggested in the forum to adjust
something called MTU in the router. So I disabled the ethernet connection and
used a dial-up modem and it just connected to WU site and downloaded updates.

So I think there is something wrong with my computers on board ethernet card
or something with the router or maybe modem.

Any suggestions???

I tried all of your suggestions to no avail. However, in a post from several months
ago, someone mentioned an MTU seating on a router. I had upgraded the firmware on my
home router several days ago and left the MTU set at the default of 1500. Come to
think of it, my Internet connection seemed a little sluggish since I upgraded the
firmware.

I reset the MTU to 1492, and voila! Windows Update works again.

I write this post so that someone else doesn't overlook a simple solution to a very
frustrating problem.

Router / Firewall / Wireless Router MTU ==> 1492 or less <snip>
