Can't get any updates to install

I have Vista and have had nothing but problems trying to get any updates to
install. I have searched on the error codes and followed the directions to
no avail. Is anyone else having this problem. I don't want to have to bring
it in and pay $$ to get installs to download and then install.

Any solutions?
